Suspected serial killer Terence Bailey is about to be released from prison when he gets a surprise visit from social media influencer Maddison Logan. Hours later she disappears. The FBI reluctantly calls in true-crime podcaster Rachel Krall for help in finding her. Maddison seems to only exist on social media with no family or friends. Using a fake Instagram account, Rachel goes undercover to BuzzCon, a popular influencer conference, where she discovers a world of fierce rivalry. Racing to find Maddison, Rachel is forced to confront the real dangers that lurk in the dark corners of the internet where some social media influencers have secrets…

I have read all of this author’s novels and each have been excellent; this one is no exception. Main character Rachel was first introduced in previous novel ‘The Night Swim’ however you could read this book as a standalone with no problems. The storyline is an intriguing and clever one, with many twists and reveals making for a real page-turner. The narrative features multiple character perspectives including that of a serial killer which was suitably creepy at times. The parts describing the cut-throat world of social media influencers was timely and illuminating; a behind-the-scenes look at the reality of some influencers as they attempt to get the perfect posts etc. I have no doubt that any readers who enjoy thrillers will appreciate this one.
Overall: another fabulous suspense/mystery/ thriller read from this author.
