(Children’s House/Freyja & Huldar #6)

**4 out of 5 stars**

11 years ago a baby went missing from her pram, with her blanket washing up on a beach and her mother found dead… Detective Huldar and child psychologist Freyja are now working together and Freyja believes their personal and professional relationships need to be kept separate. But when a woman’s dismembered body is found with her head missing, they find themselves on the same case and the secrecy around their affair might crack. Then Freyja is accused of a serious breach of police protocol, but can Huldar help her? Meanwhile their search to identify the body leads to past events and the unspoken crimes that bind three families.

This is one of my favourite crime series and I love the duo of Freyja and Huldar. I think you could read the book as a standalone and still really enjoy it, you’ll just miss some of the background history of the lead characters. The storyline in relation to the crimes is quite complex with the connections only becoming clear right at the end; I quite liked this as I couldn’t predict the outcome. I must admit though that there is a storyline involving a side character which felt a bit odd based on their history from previous novels so I’m intrigued to see where that goes in future novels as there was a lot of focus on that character.
Overall: happily recommend for any crime thriller fans.
